The research examined pupils’ views regarding active citizenship in Scottish primary and secondary schools, and their accounts of opportunities for participation at each side of the primary secondary transition. Moreover, it explored primary children’s anticipation of this school transition, in addition to secondary pupils’ reflections on their experiences of both sectors. 'Active citizenship’ was taken to include ideas of pupil participation and responsibility, decision-making and voice.
