Small Grants Award Programme

The Gordon Cook Foundation launched the Five Nations Small Grants Award Programme at the annual Five Nations Conference in Derry/Londonderry on November 19-20, 2009.

Between April 2010 and March 2011 a small number of grants for direct costs (travel and subsistence) up to a value of £3,000 each will be awarded to projects that best meet the following criteria:

  • small-scale, and school- or school/community-based
  • involving inter-nation collaboration between at least two countries in the Five Nations Network
  • of an innovative character
  • building on existing links and projects to support transfer of ideas to other jurisdictions

In the first year of the programme, a total amount of £15,000 is being made available by the Gordon Cook Foundation. This may be increased in subsequent years.

  • Applications are particularly welcome from teachers although others may apply.
  • Projects will need to be completed within one calendar year from the agreed start date to include submission of a report of not more than 2,000-3,000 words as a legacy for the Five Nations Network. Reports will be published on the Five Nations website in order to build a body of readily accessible shared knowledge.
  • Project proposals will be reviewed twice a year in February and June. Initially, projects will be evaluated by the Five Nations Network Strategy Group and a short list of recommendations submitted to the spring and autumn Trustees’ meetings of the Gordon Cook Foundation for their final decision. Any member of the Strategy Group who is involved in submitting a project proposal will declare an interest and absent themselves from such discussions. All decisions will be final and no further correspondence can be entered into.
